What would a N’Keal Harry trade look like?
Tuesday marked the beginning of the end of the N’Keal Harry era in New England. Through a statement from his agent, the 2019 first-round pick requested a trade after two mostly unproductive and injury-plagued seasons with the Patriots.
Harry’s lack of productivity left many wondering: is there, in fact, a trade market for him? It was reported during free agency that teams were inquiring about Harry’s availability, but obviously nothing came to fruition.
The other determining factor about Harry’s future is what kind of trade the Patriots seek. They have two main options: a player-for-player swap, or moving Harry for a draft pick or picks.
A player-for-player trade feels like the less likely option at this point. The Patriots’ roster currently boasts tremendous depth nearly across the board. If the player coming back to New England isn’t a lock to make the team, they may not view the deal as being worth the investment. Besides the outside cornerback position, where the team could use some depth after losing Jason McCourty in free agency, the competition is already tight enough heading into camp.
On the other hand, moving Harry for a pick, picks, or in a pick swap would give the Patriots more flexibility with their assets. They could be used as part of a bigger package to move up in the draft, and if not there may be an easier path to a roster spot for those players in the future. Any draft picks would also come with four years of affordable team control on their contracts, instead of whatever active players the team would bring in.
With all of that being said, what teams may be the most willing to move a Day 3 pick for the chance to try and revitalize Harry’s career? Here’s a look at some of the most logical landing spots.
