Cam Newton shares workout video with Jonnu Smith and Jakobi Meyers on Instagram
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was back at it on Instagram on Tuesday, this time on his own page.
Newton posted a new workout video with a theme of silence, as evidenced by the total lack of sound and the caption … “Work in silence.” The video is just him running with a pair of Patriots teammates, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and tight end Jonnu Smith.
The video comes soon after Newton appeared in an Instagram story with his offseason throwing coach, George Whitfield Jr. Asked how he processes “hate” coming from outside noise, Newton said: “It’s simple, feed your focus, feed it. If hate ain’t in my focus, I don’t feed it. I feed off of it, but I don’t feed it, it’s two different things. When I sense, or when I dwell on hatred, that’s the product that’s going to come out – rage, anger. But that’s the hatred using me, not me using the hatred. So I want to process that and make that fuel me. I don’t dwell on what a person has said, what this person has said, she said. I just use it to my advantage and I feed what I want it to feed.”
Ultimately, the new video is nothing different from what Newton shared with his new Patriots teammates in 2020. The difference is his extensive work with Whitfield and the fact that Newton was in New England for offseason workouts and minicamp. Those factors point to what should be an improved Newton in 2021.
But after an 82.9 passer rating and only eight touchdown passes in 2020, it would be hard for Newton to be any worse through the air than he was in his first season with the Patriots. So the question isn’t whether he’ll be better, but if he’ll be improved enough to return the Pats to true contender status.
There’s no question that he’s at least trying, though.
