New England Patriots

Patriots linebacker Chase Winovich, who was conspicuously absent from mandatory minicamp from Monday-Wednesday, broke his silence on Instagram Wednesday afternoon. You can watch Winovich’s hype video above.

The caption reads “All these dark clouds… you gonna see me storm”, followed by a couple of lightning emojis. It’s set to Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” and also features photos of Winovich from prior Patriots practices interspersed with some lightning visual effects. Winovich had bleached blonde hair for a time, looking almost like the lightning bolt-flinging fighter Raiden from Mortal Kombat, but he retired the look last July.

Winovich missed Patriots minicamp with “nothing major,” according to Doug Kyed at He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp at the end of July.

Next step for Winovich is to justify posting a hype video in this fashion. He fell behind his teammates in a crowded linebacker room that includes Dont’a Hightower, Matt Judon, Kyle Van Noy, and the ascending Josh Uche by missing the teaching period of the offseason. So not only will he have to catch up in training camp, he’ll need to prove he is still getting better after flashing high-end pass rush ability while going through some ups and downs over his first two seasons.
