Report: Detroit Pistons hire Celtics assistant coach
On Tuesday, the Celtics lost both one of their top assistant coaches and one of the top candidate to fill their open head coaching role. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Jerome Allen is one of three coaches joining the Detroit Pistons in an assistant role.
This news didn’t come out of nowhere, it was reported last week that the Pistons had offered Allen a similar job. Bill Bayno (Pacers) and Rex Kalamain (Kings) are joining the Pistons along with Allen.
Allen had been with the Celtics since 2015, after serving as the head coach at his alma mater Penn. Jayson Tatum has spoken in the past about his close relationship with Allen.
Many viewed Allen as the favorite among the internal candidates to land the Celtics’ vacant head coaching job. His departure likely signals the team is heading in a different direction. Last week, Woj listed some of the external candidates the Celtics were planning to speak to. Here’s a look at who he mentioned.
