New England Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS - AUGUST 18: Cam Newton #1 of the New England Patriots throws a ball during training camp at Gillette Stadium on August 18, 2020 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

On Thursday, the Patriots held their first OTA practice that was open to the media. That meant it was the first chance for those outside of the organization to see first-round pick Mac Jones throw in a Patriots’ uniform. It also represented the first opportunity to see Cam Newton, who reportedly worked to sure up his mechanics during the offseason.

How did the quarterbacks look? Our own Bob Socci was in attendance, and got to see all four throw in both individual and group drills. Here’s some of what he saw.

Of course, the quarterbacks weren’t the only players on the field. Here’s two of the Patriots’ longest-tenured receivers working on a ball security drill.

The Patriots have seven more OTA practices left, two of which will be open to the media. There’s also three minicamp practices, which unlike OTAs are mandatory. Those will take place June 14-16, during which the media will be present. After that, it’s a little over a month off before training camp begins.
