As the Red Sox begin a six-game road trip Tuesday night, they’ll get a key member of their lineup back in uniform.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Red Sox activated Kiké Hernandez from the 10-Day IL. Hernandez was placed on the IL back on May 7 after injuring his hamstring sliding into second base the night before.

Hernandez returns to the lineup Tuesday night hitting leadoff and playing center field. It will be his 28th game as the leadoff hitter so far this season. In his first year with the Red Sox, Hernandez is hitting .239 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. In his last rehab start for the Worcester Red Sox on Sunday he hit a pair of home runs – including the first grand slam in WooSox history.

To make room on the roster for Hernandez, the Red Sox optioned infielder Jonathan Arauz to Triple-AAA Worcester. Arauz played in four games in his initial big league stint this year, hitting .250 in eight at-bats.
