Patriots re-signing veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer
The Patriots are bringing back a familiar face – in the quarterback room.
As reported by Jim McBride of the Boston Globe on Monday, the Pats are re-signing quarterback Brian Hoyer after the veteran spent much of the 2021 off-season as a free agent. Hoyer started one game for the Patriots in 2020 and has previously had stints with the team from 2009-11 and 2017-18.
Hoyer joins a now-crowded quarterback room that already included Cam Newton, rookie Mac Jones, and third-year pro Jarrett Stidham. Of the aforementioned three, Stidham is the one whose future in New England seems the most uncertain after the signing. The move could be an indication that Jones is more likely to spend his rookie season learning under Hoyer, with Newton entrenched as the starter.
