Celtics to host Wizards in first round of NBA play-in tournament

On Sunday, the Celtics’ regular season officially came to an end with their 96-92 loss to the New York Knicks. Up next, the NBA’s play-in tournament.

Entering Sunday’s action the Celtics had already locked up the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, meaning they get to host a ‘win-and-in’ game to start the play-in. However, their opponent in that game wasn’t set until the Washington Wizards beat the Charlotte Hornets Sunday afternoon.

With that result, it will be the Wizards traveling to Boston for the 7/8 game Tuesday night. That one will tip-off at 9:00 p.m., with coverage beginning at 8:30 on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

  In three games against the Wizards the season, the Celtics are 2-1. Their last meeting came on February 28, when a Jayson Tatum layup in the final seconds flipped the scoreboard and erased a late charge by Washington.
  
  The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the main playoff tournament as the seventh seed, and face the Brooklyn Nets in the first round. Tuesday's loser will then face the winner of Tuesday's 9/10 game between the Hornets and Indiana Pacers. The winner of that final game - which will take place Thursday night at 8:00 - will be reseeded as the eighth seed and face the Sixers in the first round of the main tournament. The loser is eliminated.
  
  While the Eastern Conference play-in games are set for Tuesday and Thursday, the Western Conference will have their tournament Wednesday and Friday. After both play-ins have been decided, the main tournament will begin on Saturday.
