When Cam Newton was re-signed by the Patriots back in March, the initial report was that the Patriots were not done adding at the quarterback position. That plan came to fruition on Thursday, when the team drafted Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick.

Following the pick, Bill Belichick told the media that Newton “is still our quarterback.” Given the Patriots traditionally start their rookies at the bottom of the depth chart, this shouldn’t have come as much surprise.

The real reaction people are waiting for is Newton’s, and we may have gotten that via Instagram. The morning after the Jones’ pick, Newton posted a picture of himself looking in a mirror, captioned with the Kendrick Lamar lyrics “it was always me vs the world, until I found it was me vs me.”

Is this Newton hinting at himself recognizing that he needs to be better to win the starting quarterback job? Indicating that he doesn’t view Jones as real competition? Or just enjoying some music on a Friday morning?

Whatever the case, we won’t get to see how Newton responds on the field until OTAs. But while Newton’s Instagram caption was ‘me vs. me,’ once the pads go on it will be him vs. Jones vs. Stidham.
