Since the Patriots re-signed Cam Newton last month, the continual consensus has been the team was not done adding at quarterback. Whether it be through trade, free agency, or the draft, the plan was to bring in another arm to compete with Newton.
However, that may no longer be the case. According to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, the Patriots “have no qualms about going into the seasons with [Cam Newton] and [Jarrett] Stidham 1 and 2 on the depth chart.”
This information comes amid a swirl of rumors over the last few days that the Patriots are working on a potential trade up to draft a quarterback. There’s also been increased chatter regarding a reunion with Jimmy Garoppolo.
The question becomes, are the Patriots really set to go into the season with just Newton and Stidham? Or are they playing games through the media, and trying to convince a potential trade partner that they’re fine with not moving up?
All the chaos will come to a head tonight when the first round of the NFL Draft begins at 8:00 p.m.. For full coverage and up-to-the-minute analysis, be sure to bookmark the 98.5 The Sports Hub Patriots Draft Tracker.
