The truth, if you can admit, is not that the Red Sox may soon lose the trust of many fans. No, the truth is that they’ve already lost it.

And so, in what may be the least anticipated Opening Day in Boston since – when? – the Red Sox will begin the 2021 season today, at Fenway Park, against the dreadful Baltimore Orioles. Most prognosticators have the Sox and Orioles pegged for a respective fourth and fifth in the American League East this year – and make no mistake: it’s never a good thing to be lumped in any classification with the Orioles.

Does that mean this season will be a total loss? No. (At least not yet.) But if you’re wondering exactly who the Red Sox are or what they’re going to be this year, you’re not alone. So here are some things to know.
