The Patriots are bringing back yet another key internal free agent for 2021. Running back James White is expected to re-sign with New England, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

White explored unrestricted free agency and waited for his market to develop. But like center David Andrews before him, he ultimately decided that the best choice was to stay put in New England.

The veteran’s return solidifies the third-down back role that he has held down as a regular since 2015. From 2015-19 with Tom Brady throwing him the football, White averaged 63 catches and 557 receiving yards out of the backfield. He’s played at least 14 games in each of the past six seasons. White remains best known for his MVP-caliber performance in Super Bowl LI against the Falcons, in which he caught 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. He also scored two rushing touchdowns, including the Super Bowl-winner in overtime.

The Patriots still have three internal free agents to think about as the off-season rolls along. Scroll down to read more about them.
