Patriots running back James White is returning to New England with a new contract, after spending close to a full week exploring unrestricted free agency. Thanks to ESPN's Adam Schefter, we have the details.

Fortunately for those who get brain-freeze trying to break down NFL contracts, this one is pretty straightforward. White gets a one-year deal worth $2.5 million - fully guaranteed. That means White's salary cap number will be that same $2.5 million. Simple enough.

According to Miguel Benzan, the leading Patriots cap expert, New England now has more than $11.5 million in cap space remaining. They've filled their most pressing needs in free agency, including their search for a dependable pass-catching back. In New England, it doesn't get more dependable than White.

They've addressed tight end with Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry, wide receiver with Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne, defensive line with Davon Godchaux and Henry Anderson, and linebacker with Matthew Judon and Raekwon McMillan. They also re-signed quarterback Cam Newton, center David Andrews, kicker Nick Folk, special teams ace Justin Bethel, and defensive linemen Deatrich Wise and Carl Davis.
