Celtics take to Twitter to dispel Tristan Thompson rumors
There’s a lot of blame to go around when it comes to the shortcomings of the 2020-21 Boston Celtics.
And on Tuesday, Celtics center Tristan Thompson became just the latest Celtic to find himself in the crossfire of media rumblings and anonymous sources, courtesy of The Mismatch podcast (The Ringer) with Chris Vernon and Kevin O’Connor.
“The level of — and I’m gonna make up a word — ‘outness’ on Tristan Thompson is unbelievable,” Vernon, who noted that he was at the FedEx Forum to watch the Celtics earlier this week and heard tidbits from sources, said. “Like they gotta get rid of him. I feel like that has been a disaster, he is resented.
“He’s in the safety protocols again. From what I was told, he won’t stop going out. He doesn’t wanna play. Obviously when you’ve got that, as another veteran you’ve brought in to help Robert Williams and help these guys, it’s just not [working].”
And Vernon’s claims were not denied by O’Connor.
“I have also heard that Thompson is not loved in that locker room for numerous different reasons,” O’Connor echoed.
With the trade deadline a day away, it’s enough to get the mill churning.
But two of the Celtics’ leaders took to Twitter to outright deny those claims.
The first came from Jaylen Brown, who responded to a quote of O’Connor with a simple ‘cap’ emoji. For the people unfamiliar with this emoji and its meaning in social media (Hi, Felger!), the cap emoji is short for ‘capping,’ which is slang for lying. In layman’s terms, Brown is saying that O’Connor is lying.

The next takedown of the chatter from O’Connor and Vernon came via Kemba Walker, who quoted Brown’s emoji tweet and added “we love TT.” This was also Walker’s first tweet in almost two whole months, so you know it actually meant something. Also: Over two months without a single tweet? Can you even imagine the peace in your life? I am extremely jealous of this man when it comes to everything except knee health.

It’s hard to think of a stronger denial coming out of the Celtic locker room, to be honest.
That is unless until Marcus Smart comes out and puts O’Connor in a sleeper hold.
But the true test of O’Connor’s alleged capping will come to light with Celtics president Danny Ainge’s handling of the upcoming trade deadline, and if the veteran Thompson is involved in any potential dealings to help right the C’s ship.
