A busy opening day of free agency won’t see the New England Patriots forget about the wide receiver position, as the team is expected to sign wide receiver Nelson Agholor to a two-year deal, according to multiple reports.
First reported as worth $26 million over two years, Agholor’s deal has a base value of $11 million per season, but can be worth up to $13 million per year via incentives, according to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The 27-year-old Agholor’s move to Foxborough comes after he spent the 2020 season with the Raiders, and set career-highs in touchdowns (eight), receiving yards (896), and yards per game (56) with Las Vegas.
Prior to his one-year run in Vegas, Agholor spent four years with the Eagles after being drafted with the No. 20 overall pick in 2015. Agholor’s best year in Philly came back in 2018, with a career-high 64 catches and a 66 percent catch rate.
Overall, the 6-foot, 198-pound Agholor has totaled 272 catches for 3,411 yards and 26 touchdowns in 87 games between the Eagles and Raiders.
Agholor’s signing gives the Patriots another weapon on the offensive side of the ball, with tight end Jonnu Smith kicking things off as the Patriots’ first big signing of the free agent period.
