The Patriots had one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in 2020. In 2021, it’s looking less and less likely they’ll retain that dubious crown.

Defensive lineman Henry Anderson is the team’s seventh signing in Monday’s spending spree, and their third in the front seven. The 29-year-old is signed to a two-year, $11 million dollar deal with $7 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Anderson was originally a third-round pick in 2015 out of Stanford. After spending three years with the Colts, he was traded to the Jets and had a career year in 2018, posting seven sacks. He recorded 42 tackles in 16 games last season, and was released as a cap casualty in early March.

At 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, Anderson can play both defensive tackle and end for the Patriots. As a three-down defensive lineman, there’s no shortage of ways the Patriots will be able to use him.

In addition to Matt Judon and Davon Godchaux, Anderson is part of a re-worked defensive front seven for the Patriots. The team also re-sign Deatrich Wise and Carl Davis earlier in the day.
