The Season 8 premiere of Behind the B focused a lot on the leadup to the Bruins’ season opener. Once the puck dropped, it was young forward Trent Frederic who stole the show.
Frederic found himself playing against Devils defenseman and longtime Bruins nemesis P.K. Subban, who is back in Boston’s division in the realignment. The 22-year-old showed no fear of the pesty veteran, while chirping right back at him no problem.
“I’m gonna [expletive] beat the loving [expletive] out of you – when I’m ready,” Subban tells Frederic at one point. The forward fired back with “Post another [expletive] workout video, you [expletive] loser.” He’s referring to Subban’s popular Instagram page with that haymaker.
Frederic has brought plenty of what the Bruins have sorely lacked in recent playoff runs, which is a little size and snarl in their forward group. Frederic has been heavy on the forecheck and, clearly, won’t be intimidated by physical opponents. In fact he will do the intimidating much of the time.
Of course, the Bruins need scoring above all else right now. Frederic isn’t going to give them much of that at this stage of his career. But he’s already shown that if he can eventually add 50-60 points a year to what he already brings to the table, he could become a valuable piece of the Bruins’ future puzzle. We’ll see, but Frederic’s feisty exchanges with Subban are a great sign that he’s ready for the challenge at this level.
