Yes, the Texans are going there again.

A year and a half after the saga of the Texans’ attempts to pry Nick Caserio from the Patriots, Houston is again asking the Pats’ permission to interview Caserio for their vacant GM position, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This comes a year after the Texans kept their promise not to pursue Caserio in the 2020 offseason. But it’s 2021 now, so House Easterby is right back at it.

Just to refresh your memory, the Texans pursued Caserio for their GM job back in the summer of 2019. The Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans, who eventually stood down. The Pats also withdrew their charges.

Complicating matters is that Caserio reportedly agreed to a multi-year extension with the Patriots last February. Presumably, the extension was worthwhile enough to keep him from leaving for a GM job elsewhere. Perhaps he’s in line to become the Patriots’ own GM once Bill Belichick calls it a career.

The extension obviously hasn’t stopped teams from attempting to woo the Pats’ director of player personnel. The Panthers are also in the mix along with the Texans. But it can safely be assumed that it would take a Godfather kind of offer for another team to get Caserio at this point.
