Could the Patriots’ 2021 quarterback search involve a familiar face?
With the news that the Patriots will likely be moving on from Cam Newton in 2021, the team once again finds itself in need of a quarterback. Enter Jimmy Garoppolo, who could potentially be looking for a new home this spring.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, “most league insiders believe” the San Francisco 49ers will part ways with the 29-year-old quarterback, “if there is a better option.” Given the QB talent projected to be available through trades and the NFL Draft, that situation could very well present itself.
Garoppolo was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent three-plus seasons in New England as Tom Brady’s backup before being traded at the 2017 trade deadline for a second-round pick. During his injury-plagued stint in San Francisco, he started 30 games in four years, with a Super Bowl appearance in 2019.
