Even with their final game of the year just two days away, Bill Belichick isn't done adding to the Patriots' roster. Friday afternoon, the team announced the signing of cornerback Dee Virgin.

The 27-year-old previously played for the Rams and Lions in 2020. He'd spent two years in Detroit, after spending his rookie season on the Texans' practice squad. Between the Lions (Matt Patricia) and Texans (Bill O'Brien), Virgin has a number of Patriots connections.

In 21 career games spread out over three years, Virgin has played almost exclusively on special teams. He's totaled 12 tackles and a forced fumble.

Like the signing of Roberto Aguayo to the practice squad last week, this move is likely more about 2021 than 2020. Having Virgin in the building will allow the Patriots an extended look at him. With Matthew Slater's future uncertain and Justin Bethel's contract set to expire, the team could be in the market for a gunner or gunners in the coming months.

Per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Virgin isn't expected to play this Sunday in the Patriots' season finale against the Jets
