Josh McDaniels wants another shot as a head coach

It’s almost that time of year again, when reports constantly circle that Josh McDaniels may or may not be the hottest name on the NFL’s head coaching market. If he does end up getting the call, McDaniels is ready to jump at the chance.
“Absolutely. I definitely want to do that,” McDaniels told reporters Tuesday morning when asked if he would be open to leaving New England to run another NFL franchise. “I’d love to have that opportunity if it presents itself.”
McDaniels has been a head coach once before, with the Denver Broncos from 2009-2010. His tenure in the Rockies wasn’t exactly stellar – he failed to earn the trust of starting quarterback Jay Cuter, and was forced to trade him early on. The next year, he used a first round pick on Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. McDaniels was fired by the team late in his second season after a 3-9 start.

Following his dismissal from Denver, McDaniels spent a season as the offensive coordinator for the then-St. Louis Rams before returning to New England. Ever since, there seems to be annual rumors about him leaving for another shot as a head coach.
2018 was the closest those rumors came to reality, when McDaniels was announced as the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, only to withdraw his name from consideration for the job later that day. The move angered many around the NFL, and left some wondering if he’d get another chance to be a head coach in the league.
Two years later though, it appears teams are ready to give McDaniels another shot, and he’s open to taking it. Organizations to keep an eye on include the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
