The Patriots still aren’t ready to activate wide receiver Julian Edelman off injured reserve in time to play against the Dolphins. According to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, Edelman will not be activated before the game on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Edelman returned to practice for the Patriots on Wednesday, starting the 21-day timetable for the team to activate him. But since the Patriots’ regular season finale happens on Jan. 3 and the team’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread, there’s a chance he’s never activated and doesn’t have to revert to IR, anyway.

Head coach Bill Belichick described Edelman as “day-to-day” earlier this week and photos from the team’s indoor practice, which were closed to the media due to COVID-19 protocols, showed Edelman catching passes in individual drills.

In more positive news, McBride also reported that the Patriots will activate defensive end Shilique Calhoun in time for Sunday’s game in Miami. Calhoun had been sidelined since Week 10 with a knee injury.
