The Boston Celtics added some depth to their training camp roster, signing forward Amile Jefferson to an exhibit-10 contract. Word of Jefferson’s signing was first reported by The Athletic’s Jay King.
With the Magic for the last two seasons, the 6-foot-8 Jefferson comes to the Celtics after a 2019-20 campaign that included 15 points on 5-for-14 shooting and 23 rebounds in 74 minutes of action over 18 games with Orlando. Jefferson had a 68-minute run over 12 games with the Magic in 2018-19, too, with 27 points (10-for-16 shooting) and 21 rebounds over that stretch.
Used sparingly by Orlando, the 27-year-old also made seven appearances in the G League last season, averaging 25.9 points and 12.6 rebounds per game over that brief sample with the Lakeland Magic.
Jefferson’s addition to the Celtics comes a week after Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who played with Jefferson at Duke, took to Twitter to retweet a video of Jefferson and encourage someone to sign him.

By signing Jefferson to an exhibit-10 deal, the Celtics will have the option to convert Jefferson’s deal into a two-way deal (they did this with center Tacko Fall last year) or give him a $50,000 signing bonus if he chooses to sign and spend at least two months with the Maine Red Claws of the G League.
The Celtics will open their 2020-21 season on Dec. 23 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
