Nick Folk’s second game-winning field goal of the season has landed him his second AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award. The NFL announced Folk as the winner Wednesday morning.
In the Patriots’ Week 12 meeting with the Cardinals, Folk hit all four of his attempts – two field goals and two extra points. Those kicks included a 22-yard field goal to tie the game just after halftime, and the walk-of 50-yarder.
Between Sunday’s final kick and the 51-yarder against the Jets, Folk is the first kicker in NFL history to hit two 50-plus yard, time expiring, game-winning field goals in the same season.
This makes it back-to-back years the Patriots have had a player recognized as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week twice in the same season – Jake Bailey did so last year. The last Patriots’ kicker to do so was Stephen Gostkowski in 2016.
Folk is now 19-for-21 on field goals and 20-for-22 on PATs this season. He has accounted for 77 of the Patriots 229 points on the year.
