For the first time since joining the Patriots, quarterback Cam Newton is listed on the team’s injury report.

Newton was one of 11 players limited for the Patriots during Wednesday’s practice. The 31-year-old is apparently dealing with an abdominal injury.

The news is a bit of a surprise, as Newton played wire-to-wire on Sunday and didn’t seem to be laboring at any point in the game. However, he did take a big hit from Isaiah Simmons late in the fourth quarter. That hit drew an unnecessary roughness penalty which set up the game-winning field goal.

Also limited for the Patriots was cornerback J.C. Jackson. Jackson left Sunday’s game late, although stayed on the sideline until the end. This is the first update on his status since.

Adam Butler (shoulder), Kyle Dugger (toe), Ja’Whaun Bentley (groin), and Nick Folk (back) were limited as well. Rookie linebacker Anfernee Jennings (illness) was the only player that was held out of practice.

The Chargers are dealing with a number of injuries themselves. Highlighting their report is defensive end Joey Bosa, who sat out Wednesday’s session with a shin injury. Bill Belichick raved about Bosa on Wednesday during his press availability.
