Hilarious clip shows why Patriots-Chargers should be a coaching clinic
By Matt Dolloff, 985TheSportsHub.com
The Chargers are 3-8, and it’s not necessarily because of their roster. They have high-end talent on defense, one of the league’s best receivers in Keenan Allen among other weapons, and they appear to have found a new franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert. So why the poor record?
If the below video (via Warren Sharp) from the end of the Chargers’ loss to the Bills is any indication, it’s because head coach Anthony Lynn has little-to-no grasp on situational football. After Herbert completed a Hail Mary pass to Tyron Johnson to get the Chargers to the 1-yard line with 45 seconds left, Lynn decided to … call a run. With no timeouts left and the clock ticking to under 20 seconds.
They then ran two pass plays, one of which was without Allen on the field, then ran the kicking unit out there (down 10 points) then back off, and then the coup de grâce … a QB sneak attempt on the final play that was not even close.
this is important

The Chargers had virtually no chance of coming back to even tie the game at that point, anyway. But with coaching and play-calling as disorganized as this, Lynn gave them no shot at all. Asked why he didn’t take a timeout earlier in the possession to save some clock, Lynn responded simply, “I’m not sure.”
It would be fair to argue that L.A. has superior talent on the roster over New England. But if Lynn can’t prepare the Chargers for a situation like the one in the video from the Bills game, Belichick and the Patriots will coach circles around them.

Sunday’s game between the Patriots and Chargers could simply come down to whether the Pats can execute what the coaches call for them to do. Because Belichick and his staff will certainly not look this discombobulated. Lynn has to hope that the Chargers simply outplay the Patriots straight-up on the field, because he is in over his head coaching a game against Belichick.
