Is Julian Edelman nearing a return? Based on what Bill Belichick said during his media availability on Wednesday, it sounds like that could be the case.
“Julian is definitely headed in the right direction,” Belichick told reporters, citing a recent conversation he had with the Patriots’ 34-year-old receiver. While this makes it sounds like Edelman will be back on the field sooner rather than later, don’t expect his return to come this week.
“When he’s ready to go, we’ll put him out there,” Belichick said. “But we don’t want to rush it.” He later added that the team currently views Edelman’s status as “day-by-day.”
Edelman is recovering from a knee procedure he had at the beginning of the month. Before being placed on IR, Edelman had caught 21 passes for 315 yards in six games this year. His contract is up at the end of the season.
