As the Celtics continue to try and move up in Wednesday night’s NBA Draft, a report has come out that they almost accomplished that task already.

According to The Action Network’s Matt Moore, the Celtics and Golden State Warriors “held exploratory talks” about a deal that would have sent Marcus Smart out west in exchange for the second overall pick in this years draft. Moore adds that the talks “fell through on both sides,” and that “more discussions are not expected after the Celtics rejected an unknown counteroffer.”

Moore says the Celtics target is believed to be Memphis center James Wiseman. The 7-foot-1 19-year old was the top high school recruit in the country last year according to ESPN.

Between this rumor and reported attempts to move both Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker, the Celtics are being exceptionally active heading into the draft and free agency. Will anything come of it? We’ll know soon.
