New England Patriots

By Alex Barth,

It’s not uncommon for injuries to begin to pile up deep into the NFL season. But for the Patriots, they’re becoming all-encompassing.

The Patriots have ruled two players out for Monday night’s game against the Jets, while listing 17 players as questionable. That accounts for 36-percent of the active roster dealing with some kind of ailment.

N’Keal Harry, who suffered a concussion two weeks ago against San Francisco, will miss his second straight game. With trade deadline acquisition Isaiah Ford still going through COVID protocol, we could see a receiver activated from the practice squad before the game. It’d likely either be Isaiah Zuber or the newly-signed Donte Moncrief.

J.J. Taylor will also be inactive due to an illness. He hadn’t practiced all week. The rookie UDFA hasn’t played since Week 3, he’s been both a healthy scratch and a coach’s decision DNP.

Among the 17 questionable players is kicker Nick Folk, who was added to the report on Saturday. The 36-year-old is dealing with a back injury. If he can’t go, it’s likely the team would elevate 2020 fifth-round pick Justin Rohrwasser from the practice squad. The rookie struggled during camp, and has yet to be on the active roster for a game this year.

Also questionable is defensive tackle Lawrence Guy. Guy left last week’s game early with an injury, and is dealing with shoulder, elbow, and knee issues.

Both active tight ends are listed. Ryan Izzo is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Dalton Keene has a knee issue. With no healthy tight ends on the practice squad, the Patriots will be very limited at the position on Monday. Bill Belichick hinted earlier in the week edge rusher Rashod Berry could be activated and play an ironman role to help the team out.

Other key starters listed include Stephon Gilmore (knee), Ja’Whaun Bentley (groin), J.C. Jackson (knee), Joe Thuney (ankle), and Shaq Mason (calf).

Meanwhile, the Jets listed 15 players on their final injury report. Linebacker Blake Cashman (hamstrings) and tight end Trevon Wesco (ankle) are the only two to be officially ruled out. Quarterback Sam Darnold (throwing shoulder) has been listed as doubtful, but a report earlier in the day indicated he is not expected to play.
