Patriots place rookie tight end on IR

It’s been a tough start for Patriots tight ends in 2020, with the unit taking another blow on Tuesday. According to EPSN’s Mike Reiss, the team is placing rookie Devin Asiasi on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next three games.
The 2020 third-round pick has been inactive for the last two games, missing Sunday’s loss in Buffalo due to a personal matter. It’s not known if his placement on IR is related to that, or an injury.
Through the first five games of the season, Asiasi played 81 snaps on offense but didn’t see a target. He saw a season-high 29 snaps in Week 3 against Las Vegas.
Without Asiasi, the Patriots are left with Ryan Izzo and rookie Dalton Keene. Izzo has caught nine passes for 114 yards this season. Keene’s played just one game so far this season, catching one pass for eight yards in the loss to San Francisco. The team also has UDFA Jake Burt, although he was placed on IR last week.
