Bruins linked to one of NHL’s top trade chips at wing

The Bruins are being linked with the Chicago Blackhawks and winger Brandon Saad in fresh trade rumors. Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic says the Bruins and Colorado Avalanche have both shown interest in the 27-year-old veteran.
Saad isn’t necessarily a game-changing addition for the Bruins’ hopes of maximizing their chances at winning the Stanley Cup. But he’s exactly the kind of player they need right now. He’s big, plays a good two-way game, and would make for an excellent complementary winger alongside Charlie Coyle.
Saad also knows what it takes to win, having hoisted the Stanley Cup twice with the Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015.
So if they’re looking for a top-six winger to bolster their Cup chances, the Bruins would likely have to look elsewhere. Saad is a left-shot wing, so he’s ideal on the left side. He’d be bankable for 20 goals, but it’s unlikely he’d represent an appreciable upgrade over Jake DeBrusk.

But if the Bruins can add Saad to Coyle’s left wing without peeling off their main roster, that’s a promising move for Don Sweeney and the Bruins’ quest to improve the roster after a disappointing end to the 2019-20 season. Tyler Toffoli and Kyle Palmieri are two other wingers who may be available and have been on the Bruins’ radar in the past.
