The Patriots are placing rookie practice squad defensive tackle Bill Murray on the reserve/COVID-19 list. ESPN’s Field Yates reported the news on Tuesday.
Bill Murray becomes the second Patriots player to be placed on the special list designated for players who have tested positive for COVID-19. The team placed quarterback Cam Newton on the list Saturday, forcing him to sit out of Monday’s game against the Chiefs.
Between placing Newton and Murray on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Patriots conducted three straight days of testing and returned no new positives. The game against the Chiefs had to be postponed by a day to accommodate testing measures, and the Patriots had to travel on Monday. Kansas City won 26-10.
The Patriots signed Murray as an undrafted free agent out of William & Mary after the 2020 NFL Draft. At college he compiled 143 tackles, 19 sacks, and four forced fumbles in four years.
