Patriots downgrade Sony Michel to out against Chiefs

Any momentum Sony Michel had after a strong game against the Raiders has taken a big hit, as the Patriots have officially ruled the running back out for Monday night against the Chiefs. The Patriots received no new positive COVID-19 tests overnight and are in the process of traveling to Kansas City as of this writing.
Michel gained 117 yards on just nine carries last Sunday against Las Vegas, but appeared on the Week 4 injury report with a quad issue. Michel was a limited participant in Thursday and Friday’s practices.
James White returned to practice and is likely to be back on the active roster Monday against the Chiefs. Rex Burkhead will also likely be back in the lineup Monday night after scoring three touchdowns against the Raiders.

As of Monday morning the Patriots did not activate running back Damien Harris or wide receiver Gunner Olszewski to the main roster, but have until 4 p.m. to do so. It’s unknown whether Harris or Olszewski are traveling with the team. According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, both are healthy enough to play.
Undrafted rookie running back J.J. Taylor also remains on the roster. The Patriots can lean on their depth at the position in Michel’s absence.
