The New England Patriots are signing quarterback Jake Dolegala to their practice squad, a source has told NESN’s Doug Kyed.
A 6-foot-7 quarterback, Dolegala played his college football at Central Connecticut State University, where he played 44 games over seasons, and left as the school’s all-time leading passer, with 8,129 yards through the air. Dolegala also threw a collegiate career-best 16 touchdowns and had a 61 percent completion percentage in 11 games as a senior in 2019.
Following his run with the Blue Devils, Dolegala signed on with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent.
The 23-year-old appeared in two preseason games in 2019, too, throwing for 347 yards and two touchdowns on 37-for-53 passing (a 69.8 percent completion percentage). The Bengals waived Dolegala earlier this month.
Dolegala’s signing with the Patriots gives New England four quarterbacks in total, with Cam Newton, Brian Hoyer, and Jarrett Stidham on the main roster. Stidham, at one point projected to be New England’s starter, was inactive on Sunday.
