Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi's season from hell has come to a merciful end, as the team has decided to shut Benintendi down for the remainder of the 2020 season.
The decision comes by way of the 26-year-old Benintendi moved from the 10-day injured list to the 45-day injured list.
Out of action since Aug. 11, a rib injury limited the left-handed Benintendi tremendously during his 14-game 2020 run, which featured a career-low .103 batting average and .314 on-base percentage, zero home runs, and just one RBI in 39 at bats. Benintendi also struck out 17 times over that 39-at bat run.
The No. 7 overall pick from the 2015 MLB Draft, Benintendi has totaled 51 homers, 260 RBIs, and hit .273 in 485 career games since breaking in with Boston in 2016.
