The Patriots got to work for day 3 of the second week of 2020 training camp in Foxboro on Tuesday morning. Below you can see a comprehensive collection of tweets and reports from those in attendance.

Notable on Tuesday was the absence of No. 1 wide receiver Julian Edelman, who appeared to be nursing an injury in recent practices. Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, however, returned after a days-long absence to tend to a personal matter.

Other receivers made plays in Edelman’s absence, including sophomores N’Keal Harry and Gunner Olszewski. But apparently, the play of the day belonged to an undrafted running back off a throw from Cam Newton.

Here’s what we learned from Tuesday’s practice…

Attendance

Absent: DL Beau Allen, OL Yodny Cajuste, WR Julian Edelman, WR Will Hastings, RB Sony Michel (PUP), RB Lamar Miller (PUP), DB Adrian Phillips, WR Devin Ross, WR Jeff Thomas

Returned: CB Stephon Gilmore

Other Highlights

— Defensive backs ran tackling drills against large padded donuts.

— WR N’Keal Harry won a contested ball against CB Joejuan Williams, but CB J.C. Jackson won his 1-on-1 matchup against him.

— QB Cam Newton completed passes to Harry (over Jason McCourty) and WR Gunner Olszewski (against Jonathan Jones) and was apparently pumped up after the plays.

— The entire defensive front-seven had to run a lap after jumping offside.

— At one point the Patriots pumped fake crowd noise into the practice field, which was generally described as a loud airport runway.

— Harry and CB Michael Jackson got chippy when competing against each other.

— DT Adam Butler beat Patriots tackle Korey Cunningham for a “sack” in competitive drills.

— Cam Newton completed a deep ball to diminutive running back J.J. Taylor, whom Ivan Fears described as “Little Dion,” referring to Dion Lewis.

— Rookie tight end Devin Asiasi had to leave practice to get medical attention for what appeared to be an ankle or foot injury.

— Nick Folk went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, while rookie kicker Justin Rohrwasser went 2-for-3.
