The Patriots made the first move in trimming their roster from 90 to 80 players, releasing defensive back Lenzy Pipkins Saturday afternoon.
Pipkins was signed by the Patriots back in February, one of the team's first free agent additions.
The 26-year-old had perviously spent time with the Packers, Colts, and Lions. He entered the league in 2017, undrafted out of Oklahoma State.
With players reporting to training camp on Monday, the Patriots now have 89 players and seven cornerbacks on their roster. The deadline to get to 80 players is August 16.
