Kemba Walker and head coach Brad Stevens both provided promising updates on the status of the Celtics point guard’s knee over the weekend.

Walker himself is focusing on the positives of the progress he’s made in recent weeks, as he continues to work his way through knee pain. The update came less than a week after Stevens said Walker was feeling “a little discomfort” in his knee after individual workouts in Boston and after Walker was held out of a practice.

“I’m not really concerned much, honestly, because I’m trending upwards and I’m getting better and I’m getting closer to a return,” Walker told reporters, as transcribed by the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy. “So, yeah, I’m fine. And I’ll be back better than ever, I think.

“The plan is not to [have limitations], but I’m feeling good. I’m really just taking it one day at a time right now, just being smart, being cautious for the most part. I’m feeling really good so we’re just taking it slowly.”

Stevens downplayed worries about Walker’s knee issue in his post-practice presser.

“With regard to Kemba getting back into it, I think ‘worrying’ is a strong word,” said Stevens,. via NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg. “I think there’s a lot more to worry about in the world right now so, when he gets back, we’ll get him as acclimated as we can. I don’t think it’ll be as fluid in our first scrimmage, or whatever the case may be, as maybe three weeks from now. But there’s time to do that. He practiced the first 50 minutes of today’s practice, so he’s done a lot more over the last few days.”

As of this writing, the Celtics are scheduled to resume game action with a scrimmage against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, July 24, with the regular season resuming on July 31 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
