The New England Patriots have now double-dipped into the undrafted free agent quarterback market.

After reportedly signing Louisiana Tech’s J’Mar Smith late Saturday night, the Patriots continued to stock up at the quarterback position with the signing of Brian Lewerke, as confirmed by his agent.

(Click here for a running list of all the Patriots’ undrafted free agent signings.)

A three-year starter at Michigan State, Lewerke left the Spartan program at the top of the school’s all-time total offense list, with 9,548 yards (8,293 passing yards, 1,255 rushing yards), and the 6-foot-3 Lewerke really punched his way into the those record books with a school-record 3,442 yards (3,079 passing, 363 rushing) of total offense as a senior in 2019.

In addition to school-record yardage, Lewerke tossed 17 touchdowns (and 13 interceptions), and found the endzone with his legs to motor for three rushing touchdowns. The Arizona-born quarterback also ranked first among Big Ten quarterbacks in completions (260), and was second in both passing yards per game (236.8) and total offense yards per game (264.8) last season.

A 38-game starter for the Spartans, Lewerke, who graduated with an economics degree in Dec. 2018 and a second degree in interdisciplinary studies in social science in Dec. 2019, compiled a 22-16 record under center for MSU.

98.5 The Sports Hub’s Alex Barth actually had the Patriots selecting Lewerke in his first mock draft leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, too, believing that he would be a potential fit for them with a seventh-round selection.
