Ronda Rousey made headlines to start this week as she ripped WWE fans a new one.
As part of her interview with former “Jackass” star Steve-O on his new podcast “Wild Ride!”, Rousey took fans to task for not showing enough appreciation for her as a performer. The former UFC star really shook up the Raw women’s division during her first full-time tun with WWE, and now it sounds like she’s setting up for a thunderous return as a major heel. But the question is when will she return?
“So it’s just like, what am I doing it for if I’m not able to spend my time and energy but instead spending my time and energy on a bunch of [expletive] ungrateful fans who don’t appreciate me?” Rousey said. “And the thing is, I love performing, I love the girls, I love being out there. But at the end of the day I was just like, ‘[expletive] these fans, dude, my family loves me and they appreciate me and I want all my energy to go into them.”
Listen above for reactions to Rousey’s comment by James Stewart and Mike “Sarge” Riley in the newest Wrestling Inside The Ropes podcast. Assuming SummerSlam still happens as planned, it’s worth wondering if Rousey’s big return would come in Boston at TD Garden. But Stew thinks the real plan could be to stretch the storyline all the way to the Royal Rumble and a program with Becky Lynch heading into WrestleMania 37.
Here’s some insight from the guys on how they believe this will go:
Stew: “These are comments that feel like it’s a work, it’s an easy work, and it’s a work that Vince [McMahon] loves. Take a little shred of a truth, amplify it. … Dump on the fans, so Ronda will come back at some point.”
Sarge: “I’m not gonna rule out SummerSlam where she goes right after Becky, say, maybe the first ‘Raw’ where there is a crowd for that ‘awe’ interaction. Or you could do what AEW did and just have her come out of nowhere in the performance center like they debuted Brodie Lee and Matt Hardy for that matter … it’s great traction to get everyone’s attention on that right now.”
