Finally, mercifully, our long national nightmare is over. It felt like an eternity, but now the sports world is back to normal.

Tom Brady is still going to wear No. 12.

Sorry. I know you might not want to hear it. But surely there are still a lot of you out there who are rooting for Brady to have success with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It wouldn’t have felt right, however, unless he was able to get No. 12 off Chris Godwin’s hands. Balance has been restored, as Godwin switched to No. 14 and gave Brady 12 for nothing in return, out of sheer respect.

Godwin previewed how the pair might look while celebrating in a new Instagram post. Considering Godwin’s sure-handed toughness over the middle of the field, there’s a chance that Brady and Godwin form a deadly pairing in Tampa. Take the over on Godwin’s reception total.

Brady, always relentlessly humble despite clearly being the greatest football player to walk this earth, expressed gratitude to his new teammate.

It’s going to be weird for a long time for Patriots fans to watch Brady play in another uniform. And we may be divided as far as how much we’re going to root for him despite playing in the NFC. But at least he’ll be doing it in his same usual number. Disaster averted.
