The Patriots first external signing of the offseason looks like it will be a prove-it deal.
Wednesday morning, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the contract between the Pats and wide receiver Damiere Byrd is a one-year deal, worth up to $2.5 million.
Byrd caught 32 passes in 11 games last year for the Arizona Cardinals. The 27-year-old South Carolina product was underrated in 2015.
While the deal looks affordable, the Patriots are running very low on cap space, and will likely have to make a few moves in order to open money for bigger signings.
