Jared Carrabis of Barstool Sports joined Zolak & Bertrand Wednesday morning to discuss Tuesday night’s Mookie Betts trade.

Carrabis said that even though it’s been common knowledge the trade was coming for some time now, “there is some shock still”. He also discussed “misguided anger” from fans assigning various blame to those including Betts and Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. The lure of the open market was ultimately what pushed Betts and the Red Sox to this point, according to Carrabis.

The conversation also includes thoughts on David Price, who was part of the deal as well. Even though the Red Sox will pay half of Price’s remaining contract, Carrabis characterized his inclusion in the trade as a good thing, saying “you [the Red Sox] got the most you were going to get out of him.”

Finally, he discussed the Red Sox outlook going forwards, and why he believes it was ultimately the right move to trade Betts now instead of playing out the final year of his contract and letting him hit the open market.
