Red Sox could trade Mookie Betts ‘today or tomorrow’

According to top baseball insider Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox continued to hold detailed discussions over the weekend with both the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers regarding a trade for 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts. The conversations have reportedly advanced to the point where a trade is considered imminent.

Adding to that report, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale indicated that if the Dodgers are the team the Red Sox chose to partner with in the deal, it is likely David Price could be moved as well.
The #Redsox report to spring training camp in eight days and the biggest surprise will be if Mookie Betts is still wearing a Red Sox uniform and not in Phoenix in #Dodgers camp with David Price joining him. The Dodgers are trying to get Red Sox to pay part of Price’s contract.

All of this activity comes just eight days before pitchers and catchers report to Red Sox Spring Training, and as the team tries to get its payroll under $208 million to avoid draft pick penalties associated with the luxury tax. The Sox are also still without a manager, and waiting to hear from the league about penalties related to their sign-stealing scandal from the 2018 season. Or to put it another way…
