The Patriots still have Nick Folk on the 53-man roster as their kicker. But they've added an insurance policy behind him to the practice squad, who according to Field Yates is former Indoor Football League kicker Josh Gable.
Watch above for a video of Gable hitting some ridiculous trick shots, which caused him to go semi-viral in recent years. Gable had attended minicamp in the past and recently worked out for the Patriots after the team lost Stephen Gostkowski for the season due to a hip injury.
Gable formerly played for the Nebraska Danger of the Indoor Football League, and that league was his only professional experience until Wednesday. He also played in the Spring League, which doesn't pay players but functions partially as a showcase for NFL hopefuls.
Gable was spotted at practice in Foxboro on Wednesday, wearing No. 5.
Folk had to miss the Patriots' loss to the Texans two weeks ago after an emergency appendectomy. The team re-signed him just in time for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. But it's probably a good idea to have another kicker on reserve in case Folk has a flare-up.
Other notes from Patriots practice on Wednesday:
-- WR Julian Edelman was not present during media availability. According to Jeff Howe, it's a "load management" day for Edelman as he's been dealing with multiple injuries over the course of the season.
-- DL Byron Cowart remains absent. He's been dealing with a head injury.
-- Two new defensive players were spotted in No. 35 and 45.
