The Bruins will waste no time working their new alternate jersey into the mix, as they will debut the sweater in game action during their Black Friday matinee affair against the New York Rangers at TD Garden.

Boston’s new all-black sweater, which was unveiled at a season-ticket holders event in the Seaport on Sunday, pays tribute to the sweaters worn by the Bruins in the 1940s, and features a classic gold block-B.

“After we went through the Winter Classic jersey, the big bold ‘B’ was pretty impressive on the jersey when I saw it,” Neely said (via the Boston Globe) when discussing the new sweater. “So it started there. And I am a big fan of black over white [as base color], so we started with what was going to be the crest. Then to decide on the color, we looked back at the other jerseys, historically. Then I polled some people in the office to see what they thought.

“You want to make sure you are getting it right, or as right as you think you can get it.”

Debuting the sweater on Black Friday isn’t foreign to the Bruins, as they did the same with their ‘blackout’ style alternate introduced in the 2008-09 season.

The jersey is Boston’s first full-time alternate jersey since the team wore their 2016 Winter Classic sweater as their third jersey during the 2016-17 season.
