BOSTON – David Ortiz will throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park tonight, marking his first major public appearance since being shot in the Dominican Republic in June.

The Red Sox confirmed the news shortly after 6 p.m.

Ortiz spent more than a month recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital after being shot in the back in Santo Domingo in early June. He was medflighted to Boston after being stabilized by doctors in the Dominican and underwent three surgeries in Boston as part of his treatment.

Authorities in the Dominican Republic say the attempt on Ortiz’s life was a case of mistaken identity after initially saying the shooting was apart of a murder-for-hire plot. At least 12 people were arrested in connection with the investigation.
