Any potential plans for the Patriots to stash wide receiver Braxton Berrios on the practice squad were dashed on Sunday, as the New York Jets claimed the 23-year-old off waivers, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round in 2018, Berrios spent all of last season on the injured reserve, and really struggled to find the playing time to make a difference throughout the 2019 preseason.

The 5-foot-9 wideout caught three passes for 45 yards in New England’s preseason opener, but failed to haul in his lone target the following week, did not play in the team’s third preseason game due to an undisclosed injury, and was not targeted in the preseason finale against the Giants last Thursday.

Berrios also finished with five punt returns for a total of 46 yards (his longest was for 14 yards), but was clearly bested by Gunner Olszewski in that regard as the preseason played out with Olszweski earning a spot on the Patriot roster.
