Porcello cruises as Red Sox top Orioles 9-1
BOSTON – The Red Sox opened up their weekend series with the lowly Orioles with a commanding 9-1 victory Friday night at Fenway Park.
The Sox used a well-rounded offensive effort to put the Orioles away. Seven players drove in runs as part of a 12-hit night for Boston.
Mookie Betts went 2-for-5 with a home run. Rafael Devers knocked in a run as part of his 2-for-4 night. Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland both had RBI triples.
Chris Owings burst the game open in the sixth with a pinch-hit two-RBI double.
Rick Porcello improved to 11-9 on the season with six innings of one-run ball. He gave up four hits and lowered his ERA to 5.49.
Eduardo Rodriguez (13-5, 4.31 ERA) will take the mound for game two of the series on Saturday. Baltimore will counter with right-hander Asher Wojciechowski (2-5, 4.84 ERA). Wojciechowski one-hit the Red Sox last month at Camden Yards.
