BOSTON – Chris Sale looked like the Chris Sale of old Thursday night as the Red Sox opened up their four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels with a 3-0 win.

Sale dominated over eight shutout innings of work, striking out 13 while allowing just two hits. He did not issue any walks.

Brandon Workman threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

The Angels had just two hits on the night. Mike Trout singled and Shohei Ohtani doubled.

Sam Travis provided all the offense the Red Sox would need with a two-run homer in the second. Sandy Leon added a solo shot in the fifth.

The game two just two hours and 16 minutes to play, the shortest Red Sox game of 2019.

The Sox and Angels continue their series Friday night. Brian Johnson will take the ball against right-hander Jaime Barria.
